Each game gets its own thread, so in the channel where you ask her to play, Alice needs the Create Public Threads, Send Messages in Threads and Manage Threads permissions. Without the first two, don't worry — she'll just play right there in the channel instead.
When does the thread close? Alice deletes a game thread once it has had no game and no messages for 60 minutes, so there's plenty of time to chat or play another round. An Alice Challenge thread stays open while the run is still going. Without Manage Threads, she archives the thread instead of deleting it.
